Clinical supervision

Supervision is the process whereby a therapist meets on a regular basis with another trained therapist to discuss, evaluate and process their client work. Most often, but not always, the Supervisor is trained within the same modality as the therapist. Both Sesame and BADTh (British Association of Dramatherapists) require that the Supervisor has an additional qualification in Supervision.

Supervision is a mandatory part of training as a Dramatherapist as is regular attendance by the therapist in supervision as a condition of their membership with the Sesame Institute. Supervision sessions can be held as part of a group or on a one-to-one basis.

At present there are no requirements laid down by the Health Professions Council, Sesame or BADth as to the frequency or duration of supervision sessions. This present situation is likely to change in the future so that the Dramatherapy profession is in line with other therapy disciplines.
